Book Review: The Sky Is Yours--A Novel by Chandler Klang Smith

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I bring you yet again ANOTHER book review.
I have made it a sort of New Years resolution to read more, so I have been pounding out books like it's no one's business. lol
I came crossed this lovely novel called:
The Sky Is Yours by
Chandler Klang Smith

I will be the first to admit that the cover is what sold me.
I know they claim to never judge a book by its cover but I have to say that the front covering page of this novel really caught my eye upon first glance.
I really loved the neon colors and the fact it had dragons on it.

I instantly thought of Skyrim, a videogame that I thoroughly enjoy playing.
Thus, the curiosity sparked me enough to research a bit into the novel before placing my order.

Allow me to just tell you as briefly as I possibly can without spoilers:
I am in LOVE with the atmosphere of this book.
Fire breathing dragons, spoiled bratty children of an immensely wealthy upper class, a psychopathic
killer with magical drugs and a feral girl child meet in a dystopian future.

I have read many different books ranging from various different topics and having all kinds of different plots.
The one that really sparks a double read for me are those that don't necessarily have a flowing plot.
I don't mean ones that are completely scattered around, but I do like to have a bit of suspense without knowing the turnabouts after the first initial page.
The Sky is Yours is a fantasy,

a genre that excels in the invention part but often struggles with a plausible flow of action.
That, in itself, is the sole reason I fell in love with it.

The scene is Empire Island is the city, loosely based on Manhattan.
It has been ravaged by two fire breathing dragons.
Duncan is heir to the Ripple fortune, a massive accumulation of wealth that permits the family to live on Empire Island essentially insulated from the grim realities of poverty, lawlessness and dragon fire.
Duncan is a narcissist, not smart and terribly spoiled. Swanny Dahlberg is his betrothed, and likewise from great wealth; her lands are more or less the Westchester or Connecticut suburbs.
She has been raised to become a grande dame. Swanny is fairly smart, but incredibly naive. Abby is a feral girl who lives on an island of garbage near the city, who rescues Duncan when he crashed his flying machine.
She can speak telepathically with some of the genetically modified animals. Eisenhower Sharkey is the prime
mover in the prison city encapsulated within Empire Island. He creates and deals in a narcotic
that renders the past visible.

These and other grotesques meet and interact in a wide ranging plot filled with lust, passion,
sacrifice, love and death. It is a pretty glorious romp, marred by character development that
doesn’t appear congruent. It’s as fun, but a bit scattered but nothing that you can't hold together after you read it.
I personally loved every minute of my read and I really highly recommend you check it out for yourself especially if you love fantasy novels and the like.
